On behalf of AAVA, we are delighted to announce the creation of the AAVA Youth Internship and Volunteer Program! Below, you will find a program description. If you’re interested in the opportunity to learn more about advocacy and civic engagement, complete the attached form and pass the information on to any other young, emerging leaders in your community who could help us in our mission. We welcome applications from anyone who is in their first year of high school all the way up those in their final year of college.
General Information
- 9th graders in high school all the way up to seniors in college are eligible for the program
- If accepted, all volunteers must be willing to assist with door-to-door canvassing. Those interested in additional responsibilities applicants can opt to become interns

- The AAVA is proud to count your work for us toward any mandated volunteer hours & will provide all volunteers and interns with snacks and drinks
- In order to be eligible for a letter of recommendation from the Asian American Youth Voter Association, a volunteer/intern must complete at least 30 hours of work

Youth Volunteers
- Most events will take place in person, but we may also plan hybrid activities
- Responsibilities: Engaging with voters through door-to-door canvassing
- Volunteers will also be invited to help with translation ballot training
- Relevant Skills: Strong interpersonal skills, ability to engage with diverse communities (bilingual would be helpful), understanding of local issues, and persistence in face-to-face interactions. Special consideration will be given to applicants who are fluent in one or more of the following languages: Burmese, Bengali, Indonesian, Korean, Japanese, Vietnamese, Filipino, Hindi, Malay, Thai, Mongolian, Punjabi, Lao, Tamil, Telugu)
- Minimum of 3 hours of volunteer work each week
- Time constraints are flexible
Youth Internships
- The internship process is selective
- The application consists of written responses and possibly an interview
- The program will be both in-person and online
- Responsibilities: Assisting various teams with administrative tasks, research, social media outreach event support, other entry-level tasks and more
- Communications, Research and Policy Analysis: Assisting with social media management, content creation, writing press releases on key issues, conducting media outreach, and tracking media coverage.
- Leaders and Volunteer Coordination: Assist in recruiting and managing campaign volunteers, organizing training sessions, and coordinating volunteer activities.
- Relevant Skills: Strong communication, organization, attention to detail, ability to follow instructions, eagerness to learn, adaptability, organizational skills, attention to detail, ability to multitask, familiarity with event planning, strong communication skills, strong research and analytical skills, ability to interpret data, familiarity with legal and policy concepts, and attention to accuracy.
- This positions requires more commitment, with an estimated 6 hours of work a week
